Playing Panda Catch-up

First, an apology to those who have been waiting ever so patiently for more news from the Panda family (or the latest photos of the little guy).  The last few months have been fantastic, but very full of life for our family.  We are thankful (more than you can know) for your thoughts and messages.

The Little Panda as R2-D2.

Since our last update we have been on many an adventure and experienced a challenge or two. Mary Erin and the Little Panda continue to be involved in several "mums and tots" groups in our area, which has been a great way to meet other young families. We hosted Halloween and Christmas parties at our church for the groups and other families in the congregation. There are few things cuter than a bunch of babies in Halloween costumes!

One of the personal highlights of the fall for me was being asked to help preside at the Remembrance Day service in Groomsport.  Remembrance Day is the UK corollary to Veterans Day in the US; without the focus on sales.  Many communities, including Groomsport, hold services to honour those from the local area who served in times of conflict.  As the UK is an officially Christian nation (unlike the US), these services are led by area clergy. This year my colleague from the Church of Ireland (Anglican) and I led the service.  It was a moving experience that focused on the deep need for peace in our world; and for each one of us to serve as peacemakers in our communities.

Our family was blessed to spend time over Thanksgiving (a holiday not celebrated here) with other Americans living in our area.  There is something wonderful about sharing memories from home with people who really understand!  The holiday season continued with the arrival of family and the celebration of the Little Panda's first Christmas.  I had the joy of preaching Christmas morning to a packed church (we don't have a Christmas Eve service), followed by Christmas dinner - for which I made a "from-scratch" oven-roasted, mustard & maple syrup glazed ham (over here called "gammon" because you buy it raw and slow cook it yourself - a feat I was quite proud of if I do say so).

We have had some wonderful travels in the past few weeks, but those photos aren't sorted yet - so you will just have to wait a bit longer.  That, along with the stories, will come in a later post (when I can get around to it!).  Below is what you are probably here to see - the latest photos of the Little Panda!  You will find three albums; 8 month photos, 9 month photos, and Christmas photos.  There are lots of pictures of the guy opening presents - these are mainly for family back home, so don't feel the need to flip through all of them (unless you are really bored!).

Eight Months!

Nine Months!

The day we took his nine month photos was dark and dreary, which meant that the photos didn't come out near as good as normal.  I hope you can forgive the slightly grainy look!  I guess you can call them "vintage."

Panda's First Christmas!

Christmas was a wonderful time for the Panda family.  While the little guy was a little unsure what all the commotion was about, he did love getting new toys and books.  Even more, we loved all the tissue paper!  We are thankful for the many people who sent gifts, prayers, and kind words our way this holiday season!

I hope you have enjoyed the update!  Until next time, all the best from our family to yours!
