In the book of Revelation, John shares the vision God gives him of the holy city. We are hesitant about visions these days; but what if we weren't? How might we live the dream?
Read MoreI had the great joy of returning to Thompson Memorial Presbyterian Church to preach this past weekend while back in the US. I had officiated at the wedding of two good friends the day before in Tom's River, NJ, and was delighted to have the opportunity to preach at TMPC: a congregation that has been formational in my ministry and sense of call.

The texts that I had planned to preach from were Mark 13: 1-8 (Jesus foretelling the destruction of the temple and the admonition to not fear when we hear of wars and rumors of wars) and Romans 8: 18-39 (which ends with the familiar "I believe that nothing, neither height nor depth...can separate us from the love of Jesus). My sermon was mostly planned out along with the service; and then Friday night happened. Terrorist attacks in Paris, Beirut, and Baghdad captured the world's attention. Working from the same scriptures, the sermon below, focused on the question "How Long, O Lord" is where I ended up.
