Dashed Hopes
What do we do when our hopes seem dashed against the rocks of reality? We wait for Jesus to walk alongside us on the road. A sermon on Luke 24:13-35, the Road to Emmaus. Following the audio player you will find the lyrics to a song by Mike Crawford of Jacob's Well Church in Kansas City, from his latest album Bright Hopes. It served as inspiration to me as I was preparing this sermon.
The Road to Emmaus
By Mike Crawford
We thought we had missed You
It was the time between times
We thought it was over
Our hope washed away
With the sand on the seashore
We had built You a castle
And when the waves took it
Well we thought we were done for
Instead of You crushing
You were beaten and emptied
Your life it was taken
When we thought You would save us
With a hammer on nails
So the wind left our sails
And we scattered and ran
This was too much to handle
Didn’t our hearts break
Didn’t our knees quake
When Jesus our saviour
Was led to the slaughter
Didn’t our hearts break
Didn’t our knees quake
When Jesus our saviour
Was led to the slaughter
Oh hallelujah!
We hear some have seen Him
Oh halleluiah!
He walks by our side
He tells how the prophets
Foretold of his coming
Foretold of his dying
Foretold of his rising
Oh hallelujah!
He eats at our table
Oh hallelujah!
He walks by our side
Oh halleluiah!
Jesus our saviour
Oh hallelujah!
He opens our eyes
Oh hallelujah!
He opens our eyes
My life is a listening
And His is a speaking
And thus my salvation
To hear and respond
