Proclaiming New Life
The lectionary readings for this past Sunday contain two of the most striking stories of life overcoming death outside of the Easter narrative itself. In Ezekiel's vision of the Valley of the Dry Bones, the word of God brings life to those long dead. In the Gospel of John, we read of Jesus calling his friend Lazarus out of his tomb after four days. These are amazing stories. Why, then, do they make me a little uncomfortable?
