So Long. And Someone Take the Fish!
As we are winding up our time in out here, I wanted to stop for a minute and reflect on our time on the East Coast. Almost exactly 2 years ago, we were unpacking boxes after we got back from our honeymoon, trying to decide where all of our stuff should go and lamenting the fact that we had so much stuff! (OK, I was unpacking the boxes and lamenting. I can't speak for Chris, who was probably more worried about learning Hebrew!) Now, I'm watching Chris pack the boxes and am starting to get a little sentimental.
When we first moved out here, I knew it was only going to be for 2 years and in my sad, homesick moments, I reminded myself of the countdown. 1 month down, 23 to go. 2 months down, 22 to go. That seemed to help and remind me that New Jersey, in all its craziness, was not our permanent home. Around 5 or 6 months down, I started to lose track of the countdown and had the thought that when it got to 23 months down, 1 to go, I would be sad. I was right.
The current countdown is 23 months and 3 weeks down, 1 week to go. There are things that I will not miss about New Jersey (traffic, crazy drivers, rude people in stores, etc.) but there are things I will miss (friends, tree-lined streets, running on the canal towpath, etc).
While life these past two years has not always been easy or full of rainbows, I feel they have shaped our lives and our marriage. We have both made many good friends and had many wonderful adventures. (For some examples of our adventures, see the slideshow below!) And this cute little apartment will always hold a special place in our hearts.
Now we just need someone to babysit the fish…
