Happy Christmas!

Happy Christmas from Northern Ireland!

The last few weeks have been the fun of getting to know the local traditions, like saying "Happy Christmas" instead of "Merry Christmas" and having the main worship service on Christmas Day morning instead of Christmas Eve night.  All things considered, however, Christmas is exciting here just as it is at home.  The biggest change for both of us is being away from family.  In some ways it doesn't feel like Christmas without being with our parents and family, but I have to say that for our first Christmas away, Groomsport has treated us well!

One of the many crèche we found in the Christmas markets in Munich, Germany.

We began our holiday celebrations during our trip to Germany a couple of weeks ago with visits to a half-dozen or so Christmas markets.  (more detail on that in another upcoming post)  Today we celebrated in worship at church, followed by a lovely meal at the manse with the other pastor and his whole family.  Tomorrow we will attend our first Boxing Day festivities with a family in the congregation.  We finish the holiday time with me leading worship on Sunday.

An interesting part of this evening was watching the Queen's address.  It is tradition in the family we were with to watch the annual Christmas address (which is made easier with the advent of DVR) from the Queen, so we joined them.  I found it an interesting address, especially the strong Christian commentary.  If you would like to watch, the video is below.

I hope that this holiday season finds you well, surrounded by people who love you, and filled with joy.  Best wishes and blessings from our family to yours!
