Simple Joys
Sometimes it doesn't take much to turn a day from just ok into simply delightful. Today was one of those days.
Today we had our third of five exams in NT Greek. I will go into more detail on that some other time; suffice to say it went alright. After the exam, I spent my afternoon playing board games with new friends and enjoying a high quality nap. Then, after dinner three of us walked down to Palmer Square in downtown Princeton. This is where an already good day became a great one.
On the square there is this little, locally owned ice cream shop called The Bent Spoon. They use almost all locally sourced ingredients and have some amazing (and strange) flavor choices. As it was only my second visit I forced myself to try something a little out of my comfort zone, and I am so happy that I did! The delicious creation was one scoop of "Pistachio Ricotta" and one scoop "New Jersey Sweet Basil."
As you can see, I am enjoying it! I would never have imagined that basil ice cream would be something I would tolerate, much less really enjoy, but it is a thing of greatness. The two flavors together were quite a nice combination. The lightness of the basil mixed with the deeper nuttiness of the pistachio; a delightful summer treat!
One of the things that I appreciate a great deal about seminary is the joy of community. There is something very special about being among people who are genuinely caring, supportive, and fun. It reminds me of my time working at church camp, just with less swimming and more note-taking. In a good way.
May this moment in your life be filled with the simple, refreshing joy of God's grace.
